But this year, the Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts in South Haven, Mich. and Bath, N.Y. are also offering “Wine and Design” events, which give mom a chance to learn how to paint with a professional instructor while enjoying their favorite wine.
Moms bring their own wine, but Jellystone provides the canvasses, paint supplies and instruction. A separate fee is charged for this unique activity.
“We were hoping we’d have at least 10 participants but already 30 have signed up,” said Susan Novotny, co-owner of the Jellystone Park in South Haven, Mich. Her park, which has 78 campsites and 26 cabins and cottages, also provides moms with free chair massages, courtesy of a professional masseuse.
“We like to do a little pampering,” Novotny said.
Meanwhile, moms who visit the Jellystone Park in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. will have an opportunity to create their own herb garden and plant flowers in a decorative pot. The park is also planning a craft activity for moms to work together with their kids to paint butterfly garden decorations and also to create their own bird feeder and wind chimes.
Further to the south, the Jellystone Park in Wichita Falls, Texas is celebrating Mother’s Day and Cinco de Mayo on the same weekend with its first ever “Cinco de Mama” celebration.
Special events for mom include a “Margarita Mama Fun Run.” Each mom is given a Margarita glass filled with lemonade. “We’re going to judge them on who can run the fastest and keep the fullest glass,” said Debbie Norton, general manager for the Wichita Falls Jellystone Park, which has 114 RV sites as well as 32 cabins and cottages.
The Wichita Falls Jellystone Park is also planning to host its first ever “Piñata Mama Tea Party” after the Margarita Mama Fun Run.
“The kids will be able to take a whack at the piñata and we’ll have chips and salsa as well as Latin music by the pool,” Norton said.
Several Jellystone Parks are also planning Mrs. Jellystone Contests. But these contests are not what you might think.
At the Jellystone Park at River Bottom Farms in Swansea, S.C., for example, contestants compete to see how fast they can change a diaper or how fast they can dress and undress a baby.
The park also has a Mr. River Bottom Farms contest on Father’s Day. “The men tend to dress in drag, even though we never tell them to do that,” park co-owner Dana Gabriel said with a laugh.
The Swansea park, which has 70 RV and tent sites and four rental units, is also planning a stepping stone craft activity for moms on Mother’s Day weekend.
